I am a twitcher. I live in Kew, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Birds rule my life. I get a great deal of pleasure watching Grey Butcherbirds come to drink at the water outside my window. But I derive even more thrills from traveling thousands of kilometres in search of an Eyrean Grasswren, and seeing it. On the other hand, traveling thousands of kilometres and not seeing a White-throated Grasswren, is another matter entirely.
I have seen 810 species of Australian birds in the wild. Of course, now it's down to the hard ones.
I am also a writer. I have published short stories and articles in various newspapers and magazines and have appeared on ABC Radio National's Ockham's Razor on several occasions. I have also written four bird books. Two of these are available for sale here. A third was published by the National Library of Australia in November 2012, and the fourth, Best 100 Birdwatching Sites in Australia, was published in October 2013. In a previous life, I was a state public servant. I worked in the Victorian public service for over twenty years. Now, my husband, Roger, who was an executive at BHP, is retired and we are free to follow the birds.
